Personal growth and development has become more and more important over the years and is now being promoted by big names like Tony Robins. But how do we achieve personal growth and why does it matter? All this and more in today’s post.
I have been passionate about personal growth ever since I can remember. I started Lavii as a resource to provide tips around personal growth for students and slowly but shortly turned it into the coaching and mentorship it is today. Although I talk about nothing else a lot of my community still don’t’ know exactly what personal growth is and where to start when it comes to becoming the best version of yourself or why it even matters. So, I want to shed some light into the dark around personal growth and were to start.
Before we dive into boosting your self-confidence we need to create clarity on the effects of NOT having confidence.
The thing with low confidence is that once you have it, it slowly but shortly leaks into all areas of your life. For example, let’s say you are insecure about your body. You don’t feel confident within your own skin and you have a hard time showing up as who you truly are because of it. Well it will sooner or later show in your relationships because of the way you show up and present yourself. It might even affect your work because you procrastinate on taking risks and it will most definitely affect your wellbeing and mental health which takes sh’t to a whole new level.
SOOO… You see feeling insecure has huge a chain of destruction behind it. Which is exactly why we need to work on building confidence, but don’t you worry, you are at the right place here.
When it comes to building confidence, you need to work on three things: finding the leak, healing your inner child, building self-worth.
Let’s start from the beginning:
Look I get it, you feel super insecure right now and have no idea how to get out of it. All you want is feel confident and show up as the you that you know you can be but somehow it feels so hard to do.
I have been there… I have felt insecure about literally everything I did and I even felt confused about who I was because I was feeling so insecure.
The thing is, if you want to build self-confidence you need to find the leak first. You need to understand WHY you feel insecure.
What made me feel insecure in the first place was being lost. I always knew what I wanted and where my place was in this world and all of a sudden I didn’t know and THAT made me feel so insecure. The lack of confidence that I drew from this then transmitted into all other areas of my life and in the end, I just wasn’t confident anywhere anymore.
Soo… The first step towards improving self-confidence is to find your leak. Find out what makes you feel insecure. Find out which part of you or your life triggers those doubts and try to understand why.
Most of the time our greatest insecurities stem from childhood traumas, from experiences we had when we were younger.
So, in order to build confidence, you need to heal your inner child first.
But what is inner child healing?
It is all about forgiving yourself and everyone who ever did you harm.
It is about accepting and acknowledging your feelings and experiences – both good and bad.
And it is about understanding the way you are, think, belief and act.
Understanding that the way you feel, think and act is a result of your past experiences and the lessons you learned consciously and unconsciously.
To really boost your confidence, you need to let go of those patterns and beliefs that don’t serve you anymore. Identify which childhood experience and belief patterns result in your lack of confidence and then slowly but shortly introduce love and forgiveness.
Start rewriting them and replacing them with a new better belief that serves your goal of increasing confidence.
A wonderful way to build self-worth and boost confidence is to use affirmations and mantras.
Once you identified what beliefs and areas you feel a lack of confidence around then you can take those thoughts and turn them into a powerful mantra that helps you feel confident from the inside out.
For example… You may feel insecure about the way you show up in front of others and you are worried about what other people think. Every time you have to face a group and want to share something you don’t because you are scared. You think things like “no one will like what I say” or “I don’t have much to share anyway”. Those things then hold you back from being you and sharing who you are with that group of people.
Now next time you are in that situation you know that you are insecure about speaking in group settings because maybe you had a bad experience in the past around this. You know that you’ll have those doubts and negative thoughts. So, what you will do is next time you are in this situation, repeat following mantra: I am confident about speaking up. I have a lot to share. People love to hear my opinion.
And then go share! Alternatively, you can also repeat the mantra every day to build more confidence or really any other set of affirmations that make you feel more confident.
